How to Make a QR Code for a Link, Wi-Fi or WhatsApp (Free)

Create a QR code for a website, Wi-Fi password, email or phone number, choose colours and error correction, and download a PNG or SVG that prints sharply.

A QR code turns a long link or a Wi-Fi password into something people can scan in a second. Shops put them on counters, teachers on assignment sheets, and businesses on cards and posters. Making one is free and takes under a minute.

Make a QR code in three steps

  1. Open the QR Code Generator.
  2. Choose the type: website link, text, Wi-Fi network, email or phone number, and fill in the details.
  3. Download it as PNG (for screens and documents) or SVG (for printing at any size).

The code is made in your browser and contains your data directly, so it never expires and doesn't depend on our website.

Wi-Fi QR codes

Pick “Wi-Fi network”, enter the network name (SSID) and password, and choose the security type (most home routers use WPA/WPA2). Guests scan it with their phone camera and join without typing the password. Print it and stick it near the router or on the café table.

WhatsApp and phone numbers

For a phone number, enter it with the country code (e.g. +92 300 1234567). To open a WhatsApp chat directly, choose “Website link” and use https://wa.me/923001234567 (country code without + or leading zero).

Choose the right error correction

LevelCan recoverUse when
Low7%Clean screens, smallest code
Medium15%Most uses (good default)
High25%Stickers, packaging, outdoor posters
Highest30%Codes that may get scratched or dirty

Higher levels make the pattern denser, so print it a little larger.

Printing tips

  • Keep it at least 2 × 2 cm on a card; bigger for posters seen from a distance.
  • Use a dark code on a light background. Light-on-dark codes don't scan on some phones.
  • Keep the white border (quiet zone) on.
  • Scan the printed proof with two different phones before printing hundreds.

Using the code on a website

Put the PNG on your site with a short alt text such as “QR code to our menu”. Short links make simpler codes; the Slug Generator helps you make tidy page addresses, and the URL Encoder fixes links with spaces or Urdu characters.
