CGPA to percentage formulas
There is no single worldwide formula. It depends on your grading scale and sometimes your university. The calculator includes the most common ones:
| Scale | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 4.0 (most of Pakistan) | CGPA × 25 | 3.25 → 81.25% |
| 5.0 | CGPA × 20 | 4.10 → 82% |
| 10 (CBSE, India) | CGPA × 9.5 | 8.6 → 81.7% |
| 10 (general) | CGPA × 10 | 8.6 → 86% |
On a 4.0 scale, multiplying by 25 is the same as dividing by 4 and multiplying by 100: the CGPA as a share of the maximum. It's the conversion most often used in Pakistan, but some universities print their own formula or equivalence table on the transcript, and that always takes priority. Choose “My university’s multiplier” to use it.
Percentage to CGPA
Switch the direction to go the other way: on a 4.0 scale, CGPA = percentage ÷ 25, so 81% becomes 3.24.
Quick table (4.0 scale)
| CGPA | Percentage |
|---|---|
| 4.00 | 100% |
| 3.75 | 93.75% |
| 3.50 | 87.5% |
| 3.25 | 81.25% |
| 3.00 | 75% |
| 2.75 | 68.75% |
| 2.50 | 62.5% |
| 2.00 | 50% |
Applying for a job or admission?
If a form asks for a percentage and your transcript only has a CGPA, write the CGPA as well and mention the formula you used. For official purposes, ask your university's examination office for an equivalence letter. Read more in CGPA to percentage: formulas explained, and work out your CGPA first with the CGPA Calculator.
