Job and admission portals often ask for a photo of exact pixels and a maximum size in KB. Here is how to resize, crop and compress a photo so the form accepts it.
“Photo must be 200 × 230 pixels and less than 50 KB.” Online portals for jobs, admissions, scholarships and test registrations often reject a photo straight from a phone camera, which is usually 3000+ pixels wide and 2–5 MB. Three quick steps fix it.
Step 1: Crop to the right shape
First match the shape (aspect ratio) the form wants. A 200 × 230 photo is slightly taller than wide; a passport-style photo is usually 35 × 45 mm, a 7:9 ratio. Open the Image Cropper, choose “Free” and drag the box (or type the width and height in pixels, e.g. 700 × 900 for 7:9), and keep your face centred with some space above your head.
Step 2: Resize to exact pixels
Open the Image Resizer and enter the width and height from the form. If you cropped to the right shape, keep “Keep aspect ratio” on and the height will match automatically. If the form gives only a maximum width, enter that and let the height follow.
| Form asks for | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Exact size, e.g. 200 × 230 px | Width 200, height 230 (crop first) |
| Maximum width 600 px | Width 600, keep aspect ratio |
| Size in cm or mm at 300 DPI | mm × 11.81 = pixels (35 mm ≈ 413 px) |
Step 3: Compress under the KB limit
A 200 × 230 JPG is usually already under 30 KB. Bigger photos may need compression: open the Image Compressor, choose JPG and lower the quality until the size is under the limit. Around 70–80% quality looks good; drop to 50–60% for very strict limits like 20 KB.
Signatures
For a signature scan, sign in black ink on white paper, photograph it in good light, crop tightly around the signature, then resize (for example 140 × 60 px) and compress. Saving as JPG keeps it small; use PNG only if the form asks for it (PNG to JPG converts it if needed).
If the form still rejects your photo
- Wrong format: many portals accept only .jpg or .jpeg. Convert with PNG to JPG or WebP Converter.
- Photo is sideways: fix it with the Image Rotator.
- Too small in KB: some forms set a minimum (e.g. 10 KB). Raise the quality slightly.
All these tools run in your browser, so your photo and signature are never uploaded to our server.
